FAQ

If you experience increased warmth and redness around the fracture or injury along with a fever, we advise you to seek emergency care immediately to rule out a DVT.

If you have a cast on your hand, wrist, or forearm, it is important to move the parts that are not immobilized as much as possible—without causing pain.

We recommend keeping the affected hand/arm elevated whenever possible, meaning the arm/hand should be held above heart level.

Do not lift more than a glass of water.

If your foot or lower leg is in a cast, try to keep it elevated as often as possible. When sitting or lying down, place a pillow under your foot or leg to raise it.

Your orthopedic specialist will provide individual instructions regarding weight-bearing on your foot or leg.

If you have been advised to bear weight with or without crutches, you may do so up to your pain threshold.

If you are wearing a sling after a fracture in the upper arm or collarbone, we recommend using it for two weeks. However, it is important to occasionally lower your arm to stretch your elbow.

After about two weeks, you can remove the sling occasionally to stretch your arm and do small pendulum exercises. Make sure to keep your hand and fingers active while using the sling.

You will receive specific information tailored to your injury during your visit. Remember to contact a physiotherapist for rehabilitation guidance.

If you want to replace your cast for non-medical reasons, such as unpleasant odor, a fee of 400 SEK applies.

If your cast has become wet, is causing discomfort, has broken, or needs to be changed for medical reasons, please contact us to book an appointment with an orthopedic specialist or cast technician.

We do not offer drop-in appointments for cast replacements.

If you experience increased pain after your last visit, please contact us to schedule an extra check-up.

Have you been in touch with a physiotherapist?

If you have not yet had your follow-up appointment at ABC Orthopedics and your cast is causing problems (e.g., discomfort, wetness, or looseness), we refer you back to the Emergency clinic for a replacement.

No, not all patients require a new X-ray before a follow-up or return visit. The need for imaging is determined by the orthopedic specialist based on your referral and previous X-rays.

In some cases, after assessing your injury in person, the orthopedic specialist may decide to send a referral for an X-ray.

As a rule, fractures are not X-rayed before cast removal and final assessment. In most cases, the fracture has fully healed after casting treatment.

In some situations, the orthopedic specialist may order a follow-up X-ray after cast removal. This decision is made during your visit.

Unfortunately, we do not offer scheduled phone or remote consultations with orthopedic specialists unless previously agreed upon during your visit. If such an arrangement was made, it will be noted in your medical record.

If you have been referred for an MRI, the radiology clinic will send you an appointment notification. Due to high demand, waiting times can be long.

You may contact the radiology clinic to check your appointment status or ask to be placed on their cancellation list for an earlier slot.

Once you receive your appointment, please inform us at ABC Orthopedics so we can track your case and schedule your follow-up visit once the MRI results are available.

We provide crutches for patients who need them. They are available for purchase at SEK 300 and do not need to be returned.

If you are eligible for transportation services and have a valid medical travel card, we can arrange transport for you. We can also approve transport for elderly patients or those with underlying conditions that qualify them for medical travel.

You must have a blue medical travel card to use this service. More information on medical transport rules can be found on Medical transportation in Stockholm County – 1177.

If you received a transport voucher from a Närakut to get home after treatment, this does not entitle you to continued medical transport.

We provide special certificates for purposes such as canceled trips, freezing gym memberships, etc., for a fee of SEK 375.

We offer waterproof casts year-round for hand and wrist fractures in both adults and children. If you're planning a vacation, a waterproof cast is a great option for showering and swimming in pools—but not for saltwater exposure. Waterproof casts are not covered by regional healthcare subsidies and cost SEK 700.

Yes, X-rays can be performed even if you have a cast.
